This week been trying to complete the build of the additional vehicles needed for the Bolt Action LRDG Patrol I am building.
In addition to the “scorpions tail” already built this meant two more armed trucks and some additional transport vehicles as the list in Bolt Action includes additional infantry support that must be mounted in vehicles.
The first two completed were the iconic Chevy LRDG Trucks.
The one on the left from Company B and the Right from Offensive Miniatures.
Another couple of shots showing the side on views.
For the transports I picked up a couple of the Company B Ford F30 LRDG trucks that were used in the earlier part of the LRDG history. On one I mounted a Lewis Gun for show the other left unarmed.
and the final transport was the Morris 15CWT truck again from Company B.
Load pack for this one has yet to be sorted out.
Finally I also built the first transport for the opposition an Opel Blitz Truck from Offensive Miniatures.
This week game was a Samurai game based on the battle of Nagashino in 1575.
The game was set up and used the Samurai armies of Dave B and allowed for the first outing in a couple of years.
The battle had three armies in play the Takeda clan vs the Tokugawa clan with his ally Oda Nobunaga.
Each of the three main armies had there own objectives for the game to add a bit more interest, more of which more later.
The game was played using the Pike and Shotte rules.
In this game I split command of the Tokugawa forces with David B (note different to Dave B – to many Dave’s in our group).
My forces were to defend a village (which had replaced a Castle that was in the original battle) and await the relief forces.
The first few moves of the game could be summed up with one word “inactivity” with both sides having poor command rolls and by move 5 only half the forces managing to have enetered the board!!
After some fighting around the village Takeda Ashigaru destroy a unit of Peasants and open a gap in the defences.
Success at last for the enemy and their cavalry start to advance onto the field.
Enemy centre advances and awaits the forces of Oda Nobunaga at the stream.
Oda Nobunag forces continue to advance.
At this stage most of the village defenders have taken cover in the buildings, as they offered a better defence than the walls, leaving the brave peasants to hold of the enemy Samurai, sadly a task that they failed in.
With fighting continuing in the village and the relief forces finally arriving, battle was joined along the lines. Takeda cavalry after some success had hit the barriers carried by the Arquebusiers of Nobunaga’s crack infantry and foundered.
And time was called, so what of the victory points:
Tokugawa forces – held the village and got some relief forces in so 5 points
Oda Nobunaga forces – had not lost more forces than Tokugawa and held the Takeda cavalry at bay – 5 points
Takeda forces – Contested the village (1 unit inside) but none of their other objectives so only 1 point.
So shared victory to Tokugawa and Oda Nobunaga so off to tea and stickies as a reward.
Finally finised putting together the French Indian Wars the waterborne support for my Frech Indian War forces.
First up are the Rangers in a Whale Boat with Swivel Gun.
There is a tip here in that making sure you have the crew facing the correct way before you start glueing in place, otherwise you end up touching up the painwork (doh!)
Next were the French Adversaries a couple of Courier de Bois canoes:
And finally an native canoe that can be deployed on either side:
But the overall French Raiding party looks good:
All boats and figures are from Redoubt Miniatures range.
Over the last week have been catching up on basing some figures that have been completed for a while.
The firts lot are to be used for skirmish games usimg the Bolt Action rules. These are a British raiding force (LRDG/SAS) and Africa Corps for the Western Desert in World War 2.
Initial LRDG/SAS Command Group completed (Perry Miniatures):
While the second section will eventually be their adversaries:
Now just to complete the rest and the dozen or so vehicles.
